Character Appearance: Here. Can you believe he's in his late 20s?
Powers and Abilities:
  • Craft: In the world of In Stars and Time, all characters have access to a magic known as "Craft", which serves as a way to craft the world around them. These are usually deployed by making some sort of hand sign related to their craft type, while more powerful crafts require entire rituals. It runs on a rock-paper-scissors system, and the three main crafts are named as such, though there exist other types that will be touched on as well. Most characters have one type of craft that they have an affinity towards, but can learn others via practice or research.

Siffrin himself is a Scissors Type, but through the loops he has been able to learn how to use the other two crafts, Rock, Paper, and even more complicated ones like Healing craft. I was at level 90 at this point (🫠) so the list of his skills at that point are as follows:
    • Knife to Meet You: Scissors type

    • Too Cleaver by Half: Scissors type

    • Make up the time: Support type

    • Done Heal: Healing type

    • Regen-erade: Healing type

    • Turn it Up: Support type

    • Tear you apart: Paper type

    • Rock bottom: Rock type

You can find more about his crafts here.

  • Wish Craft: A largely unknown craft that focuses on the fulfillment of wishes via giving the user the means to grant their wish. This is a largely forgotten Craft mainly used in the Forgotten Country, and thus the memory of it has disappeared along with everything else that has to do with the country. This requires the use of long-forgotten rituals (especially for larger wishes) or great desire (such as an entire country wishing to be saved), which makes this Craft mostly unusable. Siffrin is one of the few remaining users of it, but because they only use it subconsciously, it only accomplishes small things like their wooden carvings looking good or their knives being sharp. In other words, it's practically useless.

  • Time Craft: Time Craft, as the name implies, involves the use of craft to manipulate time. In Siffrin's case, they were given the ability to use this after making a wish under the Favor Tree, and it allows them to loop back to certain points in the time loop when they either die or are in extreme distress. This craft takes an insane amount of energy, and should be impossible to use as a result. And besides finding it impossible to use in a game anyways, I think it's funnier when he has no access to it. No re-dos for you, weirdo.

  • Memories: Experiences that Siffrin will never forget about themselves or their family members, which give certain status boosts. You can find them here, but the effects are so irrelevant in this setting that I barely even want to count this as a power.

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?
Throughout the story, Siffrin forges intense bonds with the 4 members of his party (Isabeau, Mirabelle, Odile, and Bonnie), to the point that they regard them not as friends or allies, but family members. As someone who has lost all of their bonds due to their amnesia, Siffrin sees his relationship with the party as their main reason for living. Within them, it's very difficult to point out a single person that he likes more than the other, because they all represent something extremely dear to him.

On top of that, we can't forget Loop, their ever present guide through the time loop they're trapped in. Though they fight and can't seem to stand each other half of the time, the bond that they have is genuine, as Loop is the only one besides Siffrin that is aware of the time loops. They're the one that know Siffrin the best, sometimes even more than he knows himself.

As for missing anyone...well, if they're not his family members or Loop, he simply does not remember them. You can't miss what you've forgotten, right? Teehee.

2. What are they most afraid of and why?
Siffrin fears being left alone. Though they don't realize it yet, the wish that he had made was for him and the party to stay together longer, because they believe that once this quest is over, they'll all separate and go back home and they can't bear with the thought of being left alone again. And it's due to this wish that Siffrin finds themselves stuck in the time loop, even though he himself has yet to become aware of it.

This fear also manifests in how protective they are of his relationships. Within the game, anything that he sees as a risk to his relationship with the team is a threat as frightening as death to Siffrin. Due to this, they'll do anything in their power to make sure that they stay with him, even if it means breaking the universe itself.

3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Emotional: Siffrin is... not the most emotionally stable person. Even before the loops started, they seem to be very sensitive to perceived criticism and they're quick to blame themselves for anything they consider to be a failure. A joke didn't land? Well that's their fault for being an idiot that couldn't read the room. Someone's upset? How could you be so heartless, Siffrin, you don't deserve anyone.

These issues with self-worth are only worsened with the loops, as they find themselves trapped between despair and intense hope. Any change in the loops is seen as the light at the end of the tunnel, while every failure sinks them deeper into rock bottom.

Mental: Similar to his emotional state, Siffrin's mental state is...bad. From the start of the game, we know that they're forgetful, to the point of missing things that they were told just a while before. These memory issues are worsened by the stress he carries throughout the time loops, causing him to forget anything from simple words to his recent past before the loops. On top of this, he's constantly forgetting whatever little they can remember of their childhood, as the Universe is constantly correcting itself to rid any trace of the Forgotten Country--aka, Siffrin's homeland--in order to maintain balance. And when you can't remember your own home, your own roots, what other memories are safe?

Physical:As a scissors type, Siffrin is weak to rock type attacks. On top of that, they are originally one of the members with the least HP, so it can be assumed that they're not good at defense either.

4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
Siffrin, on the outside, is a cool, mysterious dude with easy smiles and a pun always ready to fire and make the entire team groan. Calm and level-headed, they don't seem to fear anything, always breezing through life without breaking a sweat. Until he lost his eye, the rest of the team believed that he didn't truly care about the mission to save Vaugarde, and that he had joined on a whim.

In reality, Siffrin could not be any farther from the cool persona that they show themselves off as. This is a front to mask the slew of insecurities that plague them. They're clingy, aimless, controlling, and prone to outbursts. But they're also far kinder and caring than even Siffrin themselves realize. Even though he can say that he only joined the party because he had nothing to do, the reality is that he does care, and deeply, too.

It's just that he's as stable as a Jenga tower during endgame.

5. What would make them happiest and why?
The thing that would make them the happiest is undoubtedly the chance to spend more time traveling with their found family. This is the one thing that they wished for at the beginning of the game and part of the cause of the time loops (as the team believed that defeating the king would be the end of their journey). If they could have more time to travel with them once the country is saved... nothing would make them any happier.

6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character's ideal significant other?
It's difficult to say what would make someone Siffrin's ideal friend or romantic partner. In reality they don't need much, only someone that will love all his best parts without ever seeing their worst and also never leave him? But in reality what he probably wants is someone who will love him unconditionally. They want someone that will see them at their best (of which Siffrin thinks there is none) and their worst (of which Siffrin thinks there is too much) and love them regardless. Someone who will always stick by his side so Siffrin never forgets them.

However, Siffrin is not good at accepting any kind of love. Even if such a person exists, they would immediately doubt the truthfulness of this love. It's seen with Isabeau, the one in the party that has a blatant crush on Siffrin. They convince themselves that they manipulated Isabeau into loving them, that they just said all of the right things that would make the man be head over heels for them. Despite this, Siffrin clings onto him and the rest of their found family. Because of this, it's easy to say that his relationship with love is unhealthy and obsessive, regardless of whether it's romantic or platonic. Whoever this ideal person is has to have the patience to ride it out with Siffrin and occasionally kick their ass.

7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?
Of course, without question. Once Siffrin deems you someone he cares about, he will stop at nothing to ensure your safety. For his family members, he'd throw himself a thousand times at enemies to save the people dear to him...and he absolutely has. Their own body matters very little when compared to the lives of their family. This is also helped by the nature of the time loops; it doesn't matter if they die because they'll simply loop back. Which is why Bonnie's death is so pivotal. It was their mistake and naivete that ended up with one of their dear family members being killed.

8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?
A funny question for someone who can't remember their childhood. Siffrin can't even imagine their childhood, because the Universe has worked hard to make sure that there's nothing for him to remember. A child self is something that they can't even picture-- did they go to school? Did he have friends? Family? What did he like? Was he ever loved? What even was his name?

None of these questions have answers. And with their memory as fragile as it is, it only makes it easier for other memories to slip through the cracks. Whatever their childhood self could have told Siffrin would be long forgotten, wiped clean in order to maintain the fragile balance of the Universe. His teenage years are long forgotten as well, as he can only barely remember their life before the loops, when they first met the party.

And to this person, Siffrin has nothing to say. At the very most, he'd tell this slightly younger version of himself to watch out for falling rocks on the Death Corridor.

9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?
When in dire circumstances, Siffrin's initial reaction will usually be to fight. As a traveler in a world where monsters are fairly common, Siffrin knows how to defend themselves. He's initially a skilled Scissors-type Craft user, and throughout the repeated loops they learn how to use Paper and Rock type as well. And if this dire situation involves the safety of someone they care about, expect Siffrin to jump in even sooner and without any hesitation. As previously stated, their own safety is only a footnote in comparison to the lives of the people he considers to be dear to him. Normally, when he fights, he does so with an easy going smile and a pun ready to fire as if the fight were nothing more than a game...

...But that's just a ruse. In reality, their anxiety and frustration (once again made worse by the loops) makes them prone to snapping. In the case that they lose control of themselves, they're quick to lash out mercilessly and violently, until the enemy is cut to ribbons.

10. Why did your character make the wish they did?
At Siffrin's canon point, they just watched the youngest member of their party, Bonnie, get brutally murdered by the King while they were powerless to stop it. Even though they know that the nature of the loops mean that they're perfectly fine as long as they loop, it doesn't matter. Until they see that Bonnie is okay, that self-hatred and anxiety will never stop eating away at them. It's their fault it happened, after all. If only Siffrin hadn't had the STUPID idea to give the King a chance, this would have NEVER happened. It's his fault and Bonnie died for his mistakes.
